Privacy Policy

Effective June 5, 2026

Your privacy matters. This policy describes the information we collect through Motor Vehicles AI, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. We keep what we collect to the minimum needed to operate the Service, never sell personal information, and process AI inputs with providers that contractually agree not to train on your content.

  1. Section 01

    Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Motor Vehicles AI (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information about you when you use motorvehiclesai.com and related features (the “Service”). It applies to information collected through the Service and to communications with our team. It does not apply to third-party sites or apps that we do not control, even if they link to or from the Service.

  2. Section 02

    Information we collect

    Information you provide

    • Account information: email address, password hash (managed by our authentication provider), and any optional profile fields you fill in (display name, bio, location, phone number, avatar).
    • Listing content: photos, videos, VINs, vehicle descriptions, prices, condition, and any other details you submit when creating or editing a listing.
    • Communications: messages you send to other users, offers you make or receive, reviews you write or respond to, support requests, and feedback.
    • Voice input: if you use voice search or voice AI features, the audio you record is transmitted to a speech-to-text provider for transcription and is not stored on our servers beyond the request lifetime.
    • Payment information: when you subscribe or purchase a listing boost, Stripe collects your card or bank details directly. We never receive or store your full payment credentials; we receive only the subscription state, a customer identifier, and a token to issue refunds.
    • Notification preferences: your email and push opt-in/out choices, and the web-push subscription endpoint assigned by your browser.

    Information collected automatically

    • Usage data: pages and listings you view, search queries, filter selections, and clicks. We store aggregated and per-listing analytics so sellers can see view counts and traffic sources.
    • Device and connection data: IP address, user-agent string, referrer URL, approximate location derived from IP, language, and timestamp. We hash IP addresses (with a server-side secret) before storing them and never persist the raw IP.
    • Cookies and similar technologies: we use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences (e.g. compare list, draft listings), and measure performance. See “Cookies” below.

    Information from third parties

    • VIN decoding: when you scan or enter a VIN, we query the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vPIC API. The VIN may also be sent to our AI vision provider to extract it from a photo.
    • Geolocation: when you provide a city, state, or ZIP for a listing, we send that text to Google's Geocoding API to obtain coordinates for the map view.
    • OAuth providers: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, profile image, and provider ID.
  3. Section 03

    How we use information

    We use information to:

    • Provide, operate, secure, and improve the Service, including the sell wizard, marketplace search, messaging, offers, reviews, analytics, and AI features.
    • Authenticate you and maintain your session, including session refreshes and password resets.
    • Process payments, manage subscriptions and boosts, prevent fraud, and issue refunds.
    • Send transactional emails (welcome, listing published, new messages, offer events, payment confirmations, password resets) and, where you have opted in, marketing or product updates.
    • Deliver push notifications you have subscribed to in your browser.
    • Generate AI outputs you request (VIN OCR, photo quality tips, valuations, listing descriptions, video summaries, search query parsing, agent chat responses, comparison verdicts).
    • Calculate analytics for sellers about their listings, including views, traffic sources, messages, and saves.
    • Comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Service, and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
    • Investigate suspected fraud, abuse, safety incidents, or violations of these policies.
  4. Section 04

    AI processing

When you use AI-powered features, the relevant inputs (e.g., photo data URLs, VIN images, text prompts, voice recordings, video keyframes, draft listing details) are sent to our third-party AI providers — currently OpenAI — for inference. Our providers contractually agree not to train their general-purpose models on API inputs we send. Inputs may be retained briefly by the provider for abuse monitoring as described in their respective policies.

We do not use your User Content to train our own foundation models. Aggregated, de-identified analytics may be used to improve product features (for example, the prompts used by the photo coach).

  5. Section 05

    How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

    • With other users. Profile, listing, and review content you choose to make public is visible to anyone who can access the Service. Messages and offers are visible only to the other participant in that conversation or offer.
    • With service providers. We share information with vendors that process data on our behalf under written contracts that restrict their use of it. These include: Stripe (payments and subscription billing), Supabase (database, authentication, storage), OpenAI (AI inference), Resend (email delivery), Google (Maps, Geocoding, optionally OAuth sign-in), Vercel (hosting and logs), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vPIC API (VIN decoding).
    • For legal reasons. We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, valid legal process, a government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Motor Vehicles AI, our users, or the public.
    • In a business transfer. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in control or material change in how your information is handled.
    • With your consent. Other than as described above, we will share information only with your direction or consent.
  6. Section 06

    Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage and service workers) to:

    • Keep you signed in across sessions and refresh authentication tokens.
    • Remember your in-progress sell draft, compare list, and preferences (e.g., view mode on the buy page).
    • Operate our service worker for push notification delivery.
    • Measure how the Service performs so we can fix bugs and improve speed.

You can clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Doing so will sign you out and erase any in-progress draft on that device.

  7. Section 07

    Data retention

We keep information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and maintain trust signals (e.g., public reviews of completed transactions remain on a seller's profile after the transaction). Transactional records (payments, refunds, tax-related events) are retained for the period required by applicable financial and tax law (generally at least seven years). We delete or de-identify information that is no longer needed for any legitimate business purpose.

  8. Section 08

    Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect information, including TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for stored data and backups, role-based access controls, and scoped row-level security for our database. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for choosing a strong password, keeping it confidential, and notifying us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

  9. Section 09

    Your choices

    • Profile and listings: edit or delete in your dashboard at any time.
    • Email preferences: turn off non-transactional email categories at Dashboard → Settings, or use the one-click unsubscribe link in any email footer. Transactional emails (welcome, payment confirmations, password resets) cannot be turned off while your account is active.
    • Push notifications: turn off per category in settings or revoke permission entirely in your browser's site-permissions panel.
    • Account deletion: email contact@motorvehiclesai.com from the address associated with your account and we will close it and delete personal information within 30 days, subject to retention obligations described in section 7.
  10. Section 10

California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you additional rights:

    • Right to know what personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
    • Right to delete personal information we have collected about you, subject to certain exceptions.
    • Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
    • Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
    • Right to non-discrimination when you exercise your privacy rights.

To exercise these rights, email contact@motorvehiclesai.com with the subject line “California Privacy Request.” We will verify your request using the email on file and respond within 45 days. Authorized agents may submit requests on your behalf with valid written authorization.

  11. Section 11

    Children

The Service is intended for individuals 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact contact@motorvehiclesai.com.

  12. Section 12

Data processed in the United States

The Service is hosted in the United States. If you access it from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service you consent to that transfer and processing.

  13. Section 13

    Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and provide reasonable notice through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

  14. Section 14
